Every
other year, the River Management Society hosts and international
symposium on river management and planning. The purpose of
these
weeklong biennial symposia is to provide a forum for the exchange of
ideas, techniques and strategies concerning river management, and to
encourage the formation of networks and partnerships among a broad
range of river professionals.
The Fair allows fairgoers to make connections with a rapidly expanding base of
organic farms in the state of Maine. Hundreds of vendors, exhibitors and
demonstrators, more than 1,000 volunteers, and roughly 50,000 fairgoers will
gather to: share knowledge about sustainable living; eat delicious, organic,
Maine-grown food; buy and sell beautiful Maine crafts and useful agricultural
products; compete in various activities; dance; sing and have a great time. The goals of the Environmental Concerns Area are:
- To promote a bioregion that is environmentally
sound and is sustainable, meeting the basic needs of all living things, in
accordance with humane principles.
- To provide an opportunity for groups expressing
concern for the rights of all living systems (including groups addressing
international environmental and agricultural problems) to present ideas and
information.
- To provide a forum for scheduled presentations for
these groups.
- To accommodate activities, including those for
profit, that are compatible with the area
