GRANTEES' RETREAT
SEPTEMBER 28-29, 2007
LAKE WINNIPESAUKEE
MOULTONBORO, NH
~ meet peers ~ engage ~ learn ~ have fun ~

"Awesome, powerful, practical, fun!"
“For
me, the conference served a number of important purposes, including the
opportunity to ‘get away’ and look from a distance and with
perspective at the issues at home… to meet others and to feel
part of a larger story.”
"As usual, individual conversations with people were the most valuble aspect of the weekend."
"Fantastic job - I can really connect the training information to my current campaigns."

OVERVIEW
The New England Grassroots Environment Fund's Grantees' Retreat is a day and a half event for YOU,
leaders of grassroots groups that are building and maintaining healthy,
just, safe and environmentally sustainable communities. As
members of the NEGEF network, you are invited to convene, share
stories, network with other activists like yourselves, share meals of
locally produced foods, be energized, sharpen your leadership,
community organizing and group building skills, and see the importance
of your local work in the context of a collective global future that
is democratic and diverse, beautiful and fun. Come relax, eat
well and be recognized and apprciated for your volunteerism, hard work
and dedication to the health and wellbeing of your many communities.
This year, NEGEF is bringing the retreat to the Geneva Point Conference Center
in Moultonboro, NH, on Lake Winnipesaukee. Along with networking
and skills building opportunities there will be beautiful grounds and
scenery, and time for canoeing, walking, and talking!

WORKSHOPS
The
NEGEF Grantees' Retreat offers three day-long trainings that will allow
participants to really go into detail, ask questions, discuss and learn
skills that can help strengthen your group and/or the work you do in
your community. We are confident that regardless of the session
you attend, it will be a challenging and insightful day. Please
read the descriptions below and list your first and second choices when
you register:
smartMeme (www.smartmeme.org)
- smartMeme will take you deeper into the thinking and processes behind
your group's communication plan. A story-based strategy brings
the power of narrative to your issue, demonstrating new ways to engage
your stakeholders and inspire your community. smartMeme will
discuss the role of language and story for organizations and campaigns,
exploring different opportunities for communicating provocatively and
effectively at multiple levels. If you have ever struggled with
explaining your issue in a compelling manner, then this workshop is for
you!
Rockwood Leadership Program (www.rockwoodleadership.org/artofleadership.html)
- Rockwood will present a one-day 'Art of Leadership' training to help
you better understand the many forms of power, how you lead,
communicate, collaborate, and present your organization's vision and
purpose. This session will delve into what it takes to be a
successful leader. Rockwood will most benefit experienced activists and
leaders looking to reflect and learn more about personal leadership.
Make it Work! Grow and Manage Your Cause for Maximum Impact
- A hands-on, interactive exploration of key aspects to a successful
organizing effort. What does it mean to structure your work
around realistic goals and strategies? Are you effectively
attracting and retaining volunteers? How can you maintain
momentum? When will you know you've made a difference? You'll
spend the day with your fellow organizers and Liz Sunde, a trainer who
specializes in building and managing small social change organizations.
Part workshop/part clinic, this provocative, engaging experience
will leave you with a management toolkit and customized action plan to
steer your group toward success! This will benefit both new
organizations and experienced groups looking to improve their
organizing and strategizing.
